FROM THE CEO

In 2010 I launched “Making The Case For Leisure”. I am delighted that one year on we are still seeing areas of growth in our sector and we have remained relatively resilient in this challenging economic climate

We define our X-Leisure business as family leisure; incorporating cinema, casual dining, bowling and health and fitness. This is what we consider to have become essential elements of everyday family life and are embedded in the DNA of the British consumer’s 21^st century lifestyle. This resilience is particularly evident in the continued success of our Xscape brand. Recently, we rebranded our Xscape destination in Castleford, to Xscape Yorkshire. This was to acknowledge and embrace a significant increase in the regional growth of visitors and the wider attraction of the destination.

Further proof of the increasing success and popularity of the destination are the recent lettings at Xscape Yorkshire. TGI Fridays have opened a 300 cover restaurant, reporting a record breaking trading weekend. A lease has also been exchanged with the innovative indoor surf simulator operator Flow House. This will be the largest surf venue of it’s type in Europe. These lettings, in conjunction with our own mall enhancement works, demonstrate our aim to retain a competitive edge and ensure operators have our commitment that we will work with them to deliver success and exceptional  customer experiences. In 2011 consumer spending habits across family leisure have remained resilient, as have the trade performance for the majority of X-Leisure tenant partners. I think this will continue in 2012 even when the purse strings continue to be tightened. With Family Leisure contributing over £90billion to the UK economy, and employing a 1.8million workforce, we will continue to work with all our stakeholders driving forward a healthy future for our industry.
